Hmmm I must think about this. There are too many links at the top. Those should be reduced to articles, maps, db and workshops. There should then be somewhere where we put the games, videos, publications, tutorials, and mengospedia where I can show them or hide them at will because they may not always be done and the games will most likely be static, meaning, I may or may not have additional games in the future after Steve's gig ends.

Then we need some menu that includes an "About" somewhere which will include contact and who designed the site etc.

But I like the colors and I like its simplicity. Please use an arial font 11pt. and also add Tahoma [so it would be Arial, Tahoma, san serif' in this order. [The Tahoma is for the Arabic of course].

Certainly the social media at the bottom would be great - but specifically if we can have a Twitter widget that would not be so bad.

I attached (bottom of page) the website design we talked about.  I will add more for the other pages soon. -Steve - 11/18

Coded a little bit of the site over the weekend to get some feedback. Minor details (margins, spacing, etc)  still need to be worked out a little bit but it is a start. I assumed that we would show the first article from each section (News, Content 3, and Recent Article) and then have a "read more" link that would continue to another page. This way the homepage will be similar to Google Hompage or news websites with a simple layout and in depth information available with a single click. That the basic idea? None of the links are working as of yet since the other pages have yet to be designed. I also will add the social media links and a footer to the bottom of the page in the next revision. Joomla! is obviously going to be the CMS system that I will be incorporatng after all the page design is complete (makes it easier to do so this way).

Steve, any progress on the other pages yet? Maybe have them looking more like this site with a simple sub-navigation on the side and keeping the main menu across the top as in the homepage design? Sketch some concepts so I can get those pages working too.

Here is a basic design that I was working on before we began the virtual club: http://mengos.net/design/ please check it out. VERRRRY simple. I would need something as basic as that. Do you think we should go with Joomla? Not all links are working of course.. but certainly the three images [or at least two of them] on the front page are working.

In any case, here are the links I would like on the page:

  • About: will have under it mission statement and that it is an intiative of VA etc.
  • Publications: which will include the pdf tutorials and a pdf newsletter as well as the annual report
  • Database
    • NGOs database
  • Articles
  • Maps: again an image of the maps needs to be featured prominently on the frontpage rotating
    • censored publications and arrested bloggers/journalists map
    • mapping human rights abuses in the ME
  • Blog [there is already a blog and i will just link to it after of course changing its design once we agree to a design]
  • Games [at least one could be featured on the front page every now and then - rotating]
  • Workshops: those are previous and current training workshops.
  • Contact page
  • Live video streaming page [I will put ustream or Qik there.. just embedding the file but I need to have a page for it]
  • Language button
  • Follow us on twitter, subscribe to our googlegroups for the newsletter, RSS feed
  • credits [all of us], disclaimer, creative commons logo and liscence
  • mengospedia [I actually need to discuss this with you guys too - it is at mengospedia.net and I need to change its focus completely]

  • Creating a wireframe for the MENGOs site [and discussing Virtual Activism's site]
  • Use new mengos logo uploaded here.
